BOND

Surfing the music streaming platforms for new artists and songs as usual,I decided to check my favorite artist Temmie Ovwasa’s page to see if there was any update, but nothing really. Determined to find something to interest me on her page, I decided to check her favorite songs, then boom! I stumbled upon a few new artists and their songs, so I saved them up for later.

Among these songs was ‘Bond’ by Kemena. Initially, I thought the musician was a lady (which was the exact reason I saved it up with enthusiasm in my heart), as the name “Kemena” appeared feminine to me—my bad, I should’ve known that jumping to conclusions isn’t a good trait.

It took me weeks to finally listen to the new songs and I can’t believe it took me nine months before I discovered Kemena and his ‘Bond’ Album in particular!

ATTENTION!

Thanks.

All the songs on the album are effortlessly amazing. It sounded like Soft Rock World with a blend of Afro fusion.

My favorite songs from the album are “Only You,” “Ye,” “Pick Up,” “Inugo,” “Ibadan,” “Feelings,” “Isi Imbido,” “Down,” “Call on Me,” and “Super Powers.” In fact, I love all the songs on the album. Premium bliss! Actually, I’m stuck on “Only You” and “Super Powers.”

The song “Only You” reflects a lover (Kemena) lamenting about how his partner (an unknown lady) takes advantage of his true love and kind personality. She cheats and tries to cajole him by saying things don’t always seem as they appear, which he expressed in the song’s chorus when he said:

“she say it wasn’t my fault
That e happened like that,
Ask mama born-boy
It didn’t happen like that”

Then he goes on to clarify to the lady that he is fully aware of the truth—probably hoping she would own up to her mistakes, become sober, and then he would forgive her:

“It happened again,
You did it again but this time it’s Babajide.
It happened online,
You’re crossing the line ….
At this time of day? For under the rain?
You want to go enter his place?
Oya wetin remain? Na wetin you gain?
Zero at the end of the day”

I was sure he loved her and was willing to forgive her when the lyrics read:

“Wetin make you go involve the guy?
Waiting on you inna the morning now
Reading your message like oh my gawd
I for dey follow you dey go
If say I know where I dey go ……..
It might, it might be only you
Wey fit carry me on this cruise
I promise the river to get you
Why you putting me on this cruise?”

In “Super Powers,” a two-minute and fifty-seven-second (2:57) track, Kemena explains the struggles, hustles, sacrifices, interests, inspirations, and hard work he has put into his music. He calls them his superpowers as he humbly spanks and scolds the villains who dare challenge his craft. It was effortless—a superhero indeed! I love the outro of this song so much:

” **Laughters**
See how the thing dey sweet you”

It caught me unawares, and dang it! He was right after all, I was truly feeling and enjoying the Bond album, his craft, his voice, and everything that comes with his superpowers. I was truly thrilled, it was really ‘sweeting’ me, in fact, e dey enter body well well!

Just like the title of the album, the songs really bonded me to his craft, brand, and sound. My favorite lyric from the album has to be his signature phrase:

“The boy is a nice boy.”

He used it in almost all the songs!

I’m certain it will also bond you to Kemena’s craft as well, but don’t take my word for it, experience it yourself! So, here’s the link to Bond by Kemena.

Do you like him already? Are you curious to know more about the face behind these amazing tunes?  I know you are, well, I was too.

Guess what? Yes, you guessed right! I did a little digging and with the help of my younger sister’s access to social media (because I took a break from social media, so we used her account instead)—and I found gold.

Kemena

Yes! I found his social media handles, and as usual, I wouldn’t be stingy with such treasure. I’m all about making everyone happy ‘yunno’ 🙈😂😂.

Well, I also found out that my business page, @plugmania_, had been keeping tabs on him for about two years now, but I hadn’t really been following up. My new decision? It is to check up on all my  check up on all my ‘scoutees’ every week to stay updated on their craft and progress.

I can’t believe I was close to gold and didn’t even know it 🤦🏾‍♀️. Initially, I naively thought he was probably Temmie Ovwasa’s bandmate back in school or something.

Well, here’s the link to his Twitter and Instagram.
